Owen Morris: "We got the call; Noel was back, everbody got their shit together and was anxious to record. But we were waiting for Noel, he was late. He'd been stuck on a train for two hours, just him and his acoustic. While waiting he wrote Cast No Shadow!"
Noel: "Richard wasn't very happy for a while so l wrote it for him and about three weeks later he quit his band (The Verve). It's about songwriters in general who are desperately trying to say something. I'd like to be able to write really meaningful lyrics but I always end up talking about drugs or sex. But people like Richard and Paul Weller will look after me."
This song is dedicated to the genius of Richard Ashcroft.
